Realtek wireless drivers for RTLCE and Windows XP 32bit

I installed the Technical Preview on a self build system of mine which uses a Realtek RTLCE Wireless LAN chip by means of an expansion card, and was able to get online even during setup using the included drivers with what is reportedly full signal strength however it felt quite slow and this was confirmed by a speed test. I then loaded up the Windows 8 WLAN driver for that chipset and while the connection appears to hover between only bars, the connection is much faster once I reboot as shown:.

The problem is after a short while it drops down to that slower speed again, and I have to interrupt what I’m doing, install the new WLAN driver again, and restart the PC. After reading through some forum threads I noticed that the performance had dropped again so I decided to install the driver in Windows 8 mode, reboot and see what happens. However in the time it took to navigate to the forums and write this out, it dropped back down again:.

Is this just related to updates reinstalling the original driver in the background? Is it a bug? Is this just something that I will have to put up with for the duration of the preview? Are there any other ideas or suggestions? This is pretty much the only issue I’ve had so far but it’s a big one Thanks in advance for the help! Was this discussion helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. Was this reply helpful?

Well, installing the driver from the Realtek site solved the problem for now I have similar issues to kanga in that the internet connection takes progressively longer to load pages and often gets the “page taking too long” error. This is compounded by an accompanying loss of responsiveness when clicking links, browser back button and so on.

There was a time there when it was so bad that selecting anything from Google search simply failed to load at all. In desperation, I attempted to update the Realtek driver but Win10 consistently insisted that the newest driver was installed. BTW, my actual download speeds didn’t seem to be suffering from the slows – but if I’m honest, I didn’t benchmark before and after the driver update. An update to say that moving from DHCP-loaded DNS to alternate fixed entries has, so far at least, got the internet connection working properly again. So thanks once more for your tip. In fact I felt confident enough to allow the update to again and no issues there except for a mystery drive showing up in my bootloader – possibly a restore partition created for rollback?

Who knows but it hasn’t broken anything so I’ll ignore it. Recently found this thread while searching for answers as well, after uninstalling the drivers I had originally I installed what seems to be a newer version of the driver here, I checked RTLCE-VA4.

Those drivers seemed to fix my issue. If you choose to do this make sure you have a copy of your old drivers somewhere on your computer so you can reinstall those if you have any issues.

How satisfied are you with this discussion? Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. Same problem with me, but haven’t tried installing the drivers – looks like it doesn’t help anyway How satisfied are you with this reply? I wonder if this is something related to my problems – that the browsers, especially IE work fine when the machine is freshly booted but take longer and longer to get web pages or give up as time goes on. My web speed isn’t affected though.

In reply to kanga’s post on October 7, USB wifi uses Realtek CU chipset Back now on Win10TP – fresh install following bad experience on BTW, my actual download speeds didn’t seem to be suffering from the slows – but if I’m honest, I didn’t benchmark before and after the driver update.

Cheers, Andy. In reply to PumpkinL11’s post on March 25, I think my slow connection days are long gone, especially with the latest build.

In reply to kanga’s post on March 26, Thanks for the reply. I’ll try some alternative DNS server settings to see if that has the desired result. Joshua Filby. A subscription to make the most of your time. Try one month free. This site in other languages x.
