I don’t know about the , but on the server equivalent a particular motherboard version was required, not just a supporting BIOS – only the III supported the series processors.
The latest BIOS would no doubt be required for it to even have a chance of accepting a processor. Bios updates do not time travel chipsets and ram ddr versions into the future. I too am a user. It currently uses 2 x X dual core cpu’s and I happen to have a pair of X quad core cpu’s lying around. Thus the question; Is there possibly a bios update that will support the X’s? I already tried installing the X’s to see if it might work, and it would not boot.
Your comment may also apply to the ; don’t know for sure. I was hoping perhaps someone here might have experience in this area. But I did not know that the earlier versions did not. I have seen them only with X series cpu’s and that must be the reason why. Like I said, the also uses the X chipset, but not all motherboards support the series. Compatibility is more than just socket and chipset. But as you say there is quite likely more to it than a mere bios update, but I thought I would ask at least?
